The Interreg SK-AT supported NutriAging project started in 2017 with 2 main teams in Bratislava and Vienna. Our aim was manifold such as:
- to improve the quality of life by raising awareness of healthy nutritional needs, which will contribute to the prevention of ''unhealthy'' aging
- to reduce the incidence of age-related diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus and mental disorders (depressive disorder, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's) in the cross-border region, and reduce the cost of healthcare associated with aging
- in the research section to monitor the impact of selected nutrients (vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids and proteins) on the health of the elderly
- to identify markers of ''healthy'' physical and mental aging
- to train the elderly of today and tomorrow as well as health care professionals and nursing staff about the role of nutrition in healthy aging.
After 5 years and several in vitro and in vivo studies we could generate manifold data sets to increase the knowledge on the aging process and the impact of our diet and physical activity to improve the initial conditions of the target group.
